What to Expect at Your First Acupuncture Visit
Most first-timers are surprised by the calmness they feel in the session. The needles are hair-thin and sterile, most patients feel little more than a light tap on insertion, and it's common to relax so deeply you doze off.
What Happens During Your First Acupuncture Session?
Step 1: Intake and Health History
I'll ask about your health history, current symptoms, and any past treatments so I understand the full picture, not just the complaint that brought you in.
Step 2: Goals and Assessment
We'll talk through your goals, whether that's less pain, better sleep, or support through a fertility journey. I'll do a brief physical assessment specific to your concern.
Step 3: Your Personalized Treatment Plan
Based on your history and goals, I'll build a plan for that visit and a realistic sense of how many sessions to expect going forward.
Step 4: Points and More
The points will be placed - and where it supports your treatment - cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, or ear seeds will be added, at no extra charge.
Step 5: Rest and Reset
You'll rest with the needles in for the remainder of the session while your nervous system shifts out of fight-or-flight and into a genuine rest state. This is the part patients describe most often, a kind of stillness they didn't expect from a medical treatment.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
That depends on what you're treating and how long it's been building. Acupuncture is cumulative, each treatment builds on the last. Even though you’ll feel better after a single visit, chronic or long-standing conditions typically call for a series. I'll give you a realistic plan at your first visit.
